Samuel RootAmerican, 1820 - 1889

Samuel Root was born in Granville, OH in 1820. He was active as a daguerreotypist in New York City from 1849 to 1857 and during this period took portraits of famous people, including Henry Clay. In 1857, he moved to Dubuque IA where he continued to work as a daguerreotypist and later as a photographer. He died while visiting his sister-in-law in Rochester NY in 1889.
