Ithiel TownAmerican, 1784 - 1844

Ithiel Town was born in Thompson, Connecticut and trained with the architect Asher Benjamin in Boston. His early works include Center Church and Trinity Church on the New Haven Green. In 1820, he was granted a patent for a form of wooden truss that was widely used in covered bridges. His partnership with Alexander Jackson Davis lasted from 1829 to 1835; during this period the pair designed buildings in a variety of revival styles thoughout the United States. Town died in New Haven in 1844.
