Frederick S. Brown1822 - 1892

Frederick S. Brown moved to Hartford at the age of six and was educated in the city's public schools. He ran a cigar store on Central Row and was active in local politics. He was also a knowledgeable amateur botanist and landscape gardener and a talented amateur photographer. He was deeply interested in trees and provided Hartford's parks with many unusual and exotic specimens. A series of photographs that he took between 1886 and 1890 document that appearance of large and notable Connecticut trees is in the collection of the Connecticut Historical Society.
