Monroe NorthAmerican, 1887 - 1934

Monroe Safford North was born in April 1887, in Batavia, New York, the son of Safford North (b. 1853) and Cora North (b. 1850). After graduating from high school in New York state, he moved to Hartford, Connecticut where he worked in an advertising agency. He married Marie L. [Manier?] on 12 May 1915 at Delmar, Albany County, New York. After eleven years, he left the advertising business and moved to Stockbridge, Massachusetts to pursue a career as an artist. He was well known for his charcoal drawings and exhibited his work locally in Stockbridge and at the New Britain Museum of American Art in New Britain, Connecticut. He died in Pittsfield, Massachusetts in 1934.
