John Oldershaw

According to Census records, the photographer John Oldershaw was born in England about 1821. Immigration records suggest that he came to the United States with his family in 1848. By 1862, he was in business in Hartford, where he advertised himself as a maker of daguerreotypes and ambrotypes. He appears in the Hartford City Directories until 1877. Thomas S. Oldershaw, active as a photographer in Hartford and Middletown, may have been his brother.
