Helen Cheney was born on 7 March 1868. She was the daughter of Knight Dexter Cheney (1837-1907) and Ednah Dow Smith (1841-1915). She had ten siblings.
She married Hugh Aiken Bayne (1870-1954) in 1895. They had two daughters: Helen Bayne Knapp (1896-1984) and Elizabeth Cheney Bayne Blackburn (1898-1994).
She died on 30 April 1937.
