BiographyJames William Eldridge was born on 4 June 1841 in Mount Carmel, Wabash County, Illinois, the son of Charles W. and Emma M. Eldridge. He married Ellen of New Jersey, they had one daughter, Annie Frances Eldridge. He enlisted on 11 August 1862; was promoted to corporal on 6 October 1862; promoted to sergeant on 10 November 1862; promoted to 2nd lieutenant on 12 September 1864; promoted 19 March 1865. He served in the Civil War as a 1st lieutenant in the 23rd Connecticut Volunteers. He died on 6 February 1909.
