Charles Stratton

American, 1838 - 1883
BiographyCharles Sherwood Stratton was born about 4 January 1838, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the son of Sherwood Edward Stratton and Cynthia Thompson. Stratton was a midget, or little person, and was discovered by P.T. Barnum in 1842. Barnumb, dubbing him General Tom Thumb, trained him to sing, dance, and do impressions of famous persons. He toured him through Europe as part of his show with great success. On 10 February 1863, Stratton married Lavinia Warren, also a little person. Stratton died on 15 July 1883.
