Aimé Dupont

BiographyAimé Dupont was the son of one of the leading photographers of Brussels, Belgium, M. Dupont. Aimé learned the skills of photography through that studio but also received formal training at the School of Mines, Liege. He worked as both a photographer and sculptor, setting up his own studio in the early 1870s. He was celebrated for his work in both practices.
Economic crises in the 1880s caused Aimé and his wife, American Etta Greer, to emigrate to New York City. His first studio was located in Harlem but he relocated in 1886 to 574 Fifth Avenue. Dupont photographed many celebrities and was known for his artistic ability to disguise flaws in his subjects. When he became ill with stomach cancer in the 1890s Etta began to take over the studio, and she continued it under the same name after his death. She sold it around 1920.
