Thankful Stanton

American, 1774 - 1861
BiographyThankful Stanton (1774-1861) was the daughter of Captain William Stanton (1745-1828) and his first wife Hannah Williams; according to the Stanton genealogy Stanton's second wife was Hannah Punderson. Thankful Stanton was born 22 July 1774 in Stonington, and married Captain Elias Williams (1774-1809) on 27 November 1794. Elias Williams was the son of John Williams; he was born in North Stonington in 1774 and died 21 January 1809 in North Carolina. Captain Elias Williams was a merchant and sea captain, who was prosecuted and convicted for illegal slave trading.

Thankful Stanton and Elias Williams had four children:
Hannah Stanton Punderson Williams, born 6 March 1796, married Daniel Mason
Harriet Williams, born 7 February 1798, married Noyes Ladd
William Stanton Williams, born 23 January 1800, married Emily Williams
Joseph Stanton Williams, born 19 March 1802, married Julia Ann Gallup, died in 1888
