Uriah HaydenAmerican, 1770 - 1801

Uriah Hayden (1770-1801) was a merchant from Essex, the son of Ebenezer Hayden (1736-1818) and Prudence Pratt (1743-1779). On 4 November 1792 he married Huldah Ely (b. 1772). Their children were Electa (1793-1802), Prudence Amelia (1795-1880), William Sheldon (1797-1861), Charles Uriah (1799-1840), and Louise Cecelia (1801-1841). After his death, Huldah Ely married Reverend Aaron Hovey of Essex; they had four children.

According to a memorial of Uriah Hayden printed at the back of a sermon written by Reverend Frederick William Hotchkiss (1762-1844), "Mr. Uriah Hayden, 2d ... went to New-York upon mercantile business about the middle of September AD 1801; was attacked with yellow fever on the 3rd of October, on his return from New-York; arrived at Saybrook the day following, and deceased after a five days painful sickness in the 31st year of his age. He has left a disconsolate widow, and five young children, to be moan their loss --- three daughters, and two sons -- the oldest eight years, and the youngest six months."
