BiographyElias Mandel Grossman was a painter, graphic artist, printmaker, and lecturer. He was born 8 January 1898 in Kobryn, Russia. He emigrated to New York where he studied at the the Educational Alliance Art School, the Cooper Union and the Art Students' League. During the 1920s, he became known for his etchings of New York City. He traveled widely during the 1930's and 1940's and etched numerous scenes in Italy, Spain and the Holy Land. During the 1920s and 1930s, his etchings of famous people and European subjects were frequently exhibited in Hartford, Connecticut; in 1936, an exhibition of his work was held at the G. Fox Department Store, Hartford, Connecticut. Grossman died in New York City in 1947.
