BiographyStephen Walkley was born 8 January 1782. He was the son of Ann Bates Walkley (1744-1809) and Jonathan Walkley (d. 1819). He had six sisters. Stephen's father moved the family to Granville, Massachusetts, and then to Southington, Connecticut, in 1791. Jonathan Walkley sold his Southington farm, and purchased another one in the nearby South End of Southington in 1794. Stephen Walkley built a house on that farm for the whole Walkley family in 1808. On 23 May 1811, Stephen Walkley married Olive Newell (about 1788-1858), the daughter of Lucy Root Newell and Amos Newell. They had eight children, including Stephen Walkley, Jr. (b. 1832) and Dr. Nelson Walkley (b. 1812). Stephen Walkley lived with his two daughters in Plantsville, Connecticut, in his later years; he died in Plantsville on 28 March 1866.
