BiographySamuel Ely Hamlin, the son of pewterer Samuel Hamlin, was born in 1774 in Providence, Rhode Island. He worked in his father's shop in Providence until his father died in 1801, then continued the business himself. He continued to use his father's marks and introduced new ones. After 1811, Hamlin worked in both pewter and Britannia metal. Samuel Ely Hamlin died on 14 April 1864.
