BiographyThe Allen Manufacturing Company was founded in 1910 by Ira Dimock and William Allen, the inventor of hex-socket screws and implements. The company was located on Sheldon Street in Hartford from the 1910s until it moved to Bloomfield, Connecticut, in 1958. The company was purchased by Chicago Pneumatic Tool (CPT) in 1956. In 1986, the company was dissolved after a hostile takeover of CPT.
