Tantaquidgeon family

Gladys Tantaquidgeon (b. 1899), Harold Tantaquidgeon, and John Tantaquidgeon (b. 1775) were all Mohegan basket makers. John Tantaquidgeon was born in Connecticut in 1775. He served in the Continental Navy during the American Revolution. Gladys Tantaquidgeon was borh 15 June 1899 on Mohegan Hill in southeastern Connecticut. She was a Mohegan medicine woman and a co-founder of the Tantaquidgeon Museum in 1931. She graduated with a degree in anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania and was employed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Gladys Tantaquidgeon celebrated her 100th birthday in 1999.
