BiographyHerald J. Potter was born in Harwinton, Connecticut, in 1798. It is unknown when he moved to Bristol, but in 1835, he was made an elector in that town. He trained as a clock case maker, but founded a melodeon-making business in Bristol in 1849. His business remained productive until the factory was bought by the Bristol Saw Company in 1863. Potter was one of the founders of the Trinity Episcopal Church in 1834; he served as a church clerk for 28 years. He had at least one son, Collis Potter, who became an Episcopal clergyman. Herald Potter died on 21 January 1871.
