Eliakim H. Williams was a country merchant in Tolland, Connecticut. He was the son of Reverend Dr. Nathan Williams, who was pastor of the Congregational Church in Tolland for many years. He was a related to Reverend John Williams of Deerfield, Massachusetts, who was taken captive by Native Americans in Deerfield.

Eliakim Williams married at least three times. His third wife was Aurelia Howard (1779-1865), the daughter of Grace Grant Howard and Stephen Howard (b. 1747), both from Tolland, Connecticut. After Eliakim Williams' death, Aurelia Howard Williams moved to Batavia, New York, where she died.
