John PotwineAmerican, 1698 - 1792

John Potwine was probably born in Boston, and began his apprenticeship about 1712. He probably began working about 1719, and on 20 April 1721 he married Mary Jackson (1698-1766). Potwine worked as a goldsmith and probably sold general merchandise. At some time between July 1735 and before 1737, Potwine relocated to Hartford. He later moved to Coventry where his wife died in 1766. After her death he moved to East Windsor, and in 1771 married his second wife, Elizabeth Moseley (d. 1778). Potwine died in May 1792.
