In 1886 William J. Kinsella operated a business at 92 Trumbull Street in Hartford, Connecticut. He made shoes to order, with much of the work done by hand. Among the shoes that he made were the wedding shoes for his daughter Christine, who married Charles E. Smith of Bloomfield, Connecticut in June 1892. Management of the Kinsella Bootery continued under William Kinsella until his death, at which time it was taken over by his son, Edward Kinsella.
