Peter Lux

American, 1835 - 1904
BiographyAccording to genealogical information published in the Connecticut Historical Society Bulletin (vol. 40, no. 4), Peter Lux was born in New York City on 11 July 1835, the son of Casper Lux. His parents moved to Wethersfield when he was four years old and at the age of 22 he was employed by Robbins & Winship of Hartford, to learn the trade of cabinetmaking. A highly successful dealer in modern and antique furniture and bric-a-brac, he was also an auctioneer. He married Sarah Lawrence, of Hartford, on 1 October 1866, and was the father of Alice Gerturde Lux (Mrs. Irving C. Treat). According to the same source, Lux died on 20 August 1894, however, the file for 1972.45.0 contained a legal document signed by Peter Lux in 1903. Further research in Hartford cemetery records shows that he was born in 1835 and died 20 August 1904.
