George A. Fairfield

George A. Fairfield was born 20 March 1834 in Lansingburgh, New York. He was the son of Eva Anna Burns Fairfield and Ephraim W. Fairfield. On 3 October 1855, he married Francis C. Moore in Washington D.C.; his wife was the daughter of Charlotte and Nelson Moore of Waltham, Massachusetts. They had at least one son, George Elliot Fairfield (1865-1943).

In January 1858, George A. Fairfield opened a mechanical drawing school in Hartford, Connecticut. In 1865, he joined the Weed Sewing Machine Company and built it into an important company. George A. Fairfield later joined with Colonel Pope to manufacture bicycles. He founded the Hartford Machine Screw Company, and for many years he served as its executive head. He also served as Director of the Hartford National Bank, Secretary and Treasurer of the Hartford Board of Trade, and Vice-President and Trustee of Mechanics Savings Bank. George A. Fairfield died in Hartford, Connectcut, on 9 November 1908.
