Anna Maria NederAmerican, 1908 - 2004

Anna Maria Neder was born 13 June 1908 in Hicksville, Long Island, New York. She was the daughter of Mary Reinhart Neder (1899-1956) and Andrew Neder (1870-1936), the sixth of their fifteen children. Anna's father was a farmer; the Neder family lived on a one hundred acre potato farm in Hicksville.

Anna, or Ann as she was commonly called, left home to work for her uncle, Joseph Reinhart, before she married. She worked at his candy store, Reinhart's Confections, in Huntington, New York, and met her future husband there. Ann married John Joseph Neumeyer on 9 February 1930 at St. Ignatius Church in Hicksville, New York. They had four children: John; Patricia; Robert; and Dolores.

After the 1929 stock market crash, John Neumeyer left his job at Con-Edison to operate his own business. He later purchased a wholesale produce business in Hartford, Connecticut, and in 1941, the Neumeyer's moved to East Hartford. Ann worked for Pratt & Whitney during World War II. The company sent her to night school at the local high school to learn blueprint reading and drafting design. She worked the night shift and took care of her children during the day. After the war, Ann worked at M. H. Rhodes making timers for appliances; she remained there until retirement. Ann Neder Neumeyer died in Hartford, Connecticut, on 8 June 2004, a few days prior to her 96th birthday.
