BiographyPrudence Maria Hollister was born 31 March 1828, in Glastonbury, the daughter of Benjamin Hollister (1795-1869) and Prudence Hollister (1801-1880, daughter of Capt. Alexander Hollister and Prudence Goodrich). According to a sampler she embroidered (1979.68.255) she attended Miss Cornwall's School in Glastonbury, Connecticut. On 18 December 1867 she married General Timothy Robbins Stanley (1810-1874) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; she was his second wife. They had no children, although he did have children from his first marriage. After Stanley's death she returned to Glastonbury where she lived with her bachelor younger brother and wealthy farmer, Isaac Newton Hollister (b. 1838).

In the Hollister Family of America and other genealogical sources, Prudence Maria Hollister is listed as Maria Prudence Hollister.
