Nancy HaleAmerican, 1785 - 1808

Nancy Hale (1785-1808) was the eleventh and youngest child of Mary White Hale and Gideon Hale. Her older sister, Anne Hale Welles, was the mother of Gideon Welles (1802-1808), who was the Secretary of the Navy in the 1860s. The Hale family house still stands on Main Street in Glastonbury, Connecticut. In 1802, Nancy Hale was a student at Miss Pierce's School in Litchfield, Connecticut.
