Asahel Upson

American, 1783 - 1867
BiographyAsahel Upson was born 10 February 1783 in Marion, Connecticut. He was the son of James Upson, and he learned the tinner's trade from his father. Asahel Upson was a liberal-minded man; he served as Chairman of a committee of dissenters from "The Standing Order" and "Episcopacy," who organized in Southington, Connecticut, the Southington Universalist Church Society, known as the First Society of United Brethren of Southington and Cheshire. The church was founded n 1828 and disbanded in about 1833.

Asahel Upson married Lydia Webster (1781-1861) in Plantsville, Connecticut, on 7 August 1806. They had nine children: Lauren (b. 1807); Warren (1807-1835); James Robert (b. 1809); DeWitt (b. 1812); Edwin (b. 1814); Asahel Augustus (b. 1816); Josiah (b. 1818); Charles (b. 1821); and Gad Ely (b. 1823). Asahel Upson died in Marion, Connecticut, on 14 Juen 1867. He is buried with his wife in Wonx Springs Cemetery.
