Oliver Phelps

BiographyOliver Phelps was originally from Windsor, Connecticut. He purchased his home in Suffield, Connecticut, in 1788. At the time, he was one of the wealthiest men in the region, having made a fortune in land speculation in western New York State and the Western Reserve. Phelps fell on hard times; he had to turn his home over to the State in lieu of back taxes, and he moved to New York in 1802.
