BiographyJane Corning was the daughter of Cynthia Seymour Corning (1759-1835) and Asa Corning (1753-1815) of Hartford, Connecticut. In 1819, she married Charles Townsend (1786-1847) in Albany, New York. Her husband was a judge in Niagara County from 1813-1826, and he was an important figure in the creation of the Erie Canal. The Townsends had six children: Anna M., George C., Jane C., Mary W., Charles, and Fannie H. Jane Corning Townsend died in Buffalo, New York, on 3 November 1841.
