BiographyLydia Lewis was born 1 August 1762 in East Haddam, Connecticut. Her parents were Judah Lewis (1737-1790) and Sarah Brainard Lewis (1744-1818). She had three brothers: Theodosia (1764-1819); Judah (1766-1819); and Benjamin (1768-1840). Lydia Lewis married James Maker Smith (1760-1778) on 19 April 1778. Her second marriage was to Noadiah Taylor (1766-1828) on 28 March 1781. Their children were: Elisha (1782-1824); Joshua (1785-1872); Lydia (b. 1787); Rodrick (1789-1790); Julia (1791-1833); Judah (b. 1793); Minerva (b. 1796); and Hannah (b. 1799). Lydia Lewis Smith Taylor died 10 September 1822.
