Colonel Isaac Hawley, Jr., was born in 1756 in Newbury Parish, Brookfield, Connecticut. He was the son of Isaac and Hannah Northrop Hawley of Brookfield. His wife's name was Tamer (1767-1805), but nothing is known of her parents. The Hawley's had four children. Colonel Hawley became a prominent citizen of New Milford. He owned over 1,000 acres of land, as well as mill and water privileges. He built, at his own expense, "Hawley's Bridge" over the Housatonic River at Southville in 1807; that was the first bridge over the river. Colonel Isaac Hawley, Jr., died on 17 April 1839 in Brookfield.
