Ellen Elizabeth Coe

BiographyEllen Elizabeth Coe was born in Middletown, Connecticut on the 31 August 1835, the daughter of Linus and Maria Coe. She married Governor Owen Vincent Coffin in Middletown, Connecticut on 24 June 1858. The Coffins lived in New York until 1864, when they moved to Middletown. They had two children, Jennie Elizabeth Coffin (18 January 1861-30 March 1870) and Seward Vincent Coffin (24 September 1867-1953). Her husband was a businessman and then a banker and an insurance executive before being elected mayor of Middletown, 1872-73, and Governor of Connecticut from 1895 to 1897. Ellen Elizabeth Coe Coffin died 23 July 1912 in Middletown, Connecticut.
