Colonel Eliphalet DyerAmerican, 1721 - 1807

Colonel Eliphalet Dyer was born 14 September 1721 in Windham, Connecticut, the son of Colonel Thomas Dyer and Lydia Backus Dyer. He graduated from Yale College in 1740. On 9 May 1745, he married Hulda Bowen (d. 1800); they had 6 children. Eliphalet Dyer was admitted to Connecticut Bar in 1746 and served as Deputy in the General Assembly in 1747, 1749, and 1752-1753, and as Assistant in the General Assembly from 1762-1784. Colonel Dyer was an original member of the Susquehanna company and their agent in England. He was a Colonel in the militia in the French War. He was a Stamp Act Commissioner from Connecticut and a Member of the First Continental Congress and Committee of Safety. He served as Chief Justice of Connecticut after the Revolution. He died 13 May 1807 in Windham, Connecticut, at age 86.
