BiographyThe company was founded by Deming Jarves in 1825 as the Sandwich Manufacuting Company. It was incocporated on 22 February 1826 as the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company, by Edmund Munroe, Henry Price, Andrew T. Hall and Deming Jarves. On 1 January 1888, after a period of decline, the company went out of business.
While Boston & Sandwich Glass Company made a full range of popular glass products during the mid-nineteenth century, it was made famous by its pressed glass. "Sandwich" glass has become a generic term used to describe early lacy pressed glass, regardless of its place of manufacture.
