Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain

BiographyJoshua Lawrence Chamberlain married Frances Caroline Adams (1825-1905) of Brunswick Maine in December 1855; his wife was a direct descendant of the George Wyllys of Charter Oak fame in Connecticut. The couple had at least one child, Grace Dupee Chamberlain (Mrs. Horace Gwynn Allen) (1856-1937).
Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain was Commander of the 1st Division and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for holding his position at Little Round Top during the Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863. He was the Governor of Maine from 1867-1871, the President of Bowdoin College, and a surveyor of the port of Portland, Maine.
