George Wells Cheney Jr.
American, 1920 - 1994
He was a graduate of Pomfret School, Yale University, a member of the Book and Snake Senior Society, and also attended Harvard Business School. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he was a vice president of Travelers Insurance Co. and was employed there for 38 years. After retirement, he was a partner in the consulting firm of Moreen, Cheney and Wall, Farmington.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, with the rank of Lt. Commander, serving on the U.S.S. Franklin, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Tom's of Maine (a company owned by his daughter and son-in-law making toothpaste and other personal hygiene products).
