William & Thomas AdamsEnglish, 1865 - 1896
William & Thomas Adams is the successor to the Staffordshire firm of William Adams & Sons. William (1833-1905) and Thomas Adams inherited quarter shares of the Greenfield Pottery after their father died in 1865. In 1875, a fire at Greenfield destroyed the business records and pattern books, so the company moved to the Newfield Pottery, a mile north of Greenfield. A recession in the 1880s and various labor, economic, and fuel conditions led to difficult financial times. The successor to William and Thomas Adams, William Adams & Co., was founded in 1896 at Greengates pottery.
