T.& J. MayerEnglish

The exact ownership of this Staffordshire pottery is unknown. According to Godden's "Encyclopedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks" the ceramic manufacturer Thomas Mayer (in business from 1826-1838, at Longport, then Stoke-on-Trent) was succeeded by Thomas, John and Joseph Mayer (1843-1855, also known as the Mayer Brothers). T. & J. Mayer could be an early form of the Thomas, John, and Joseph Mayer partnership; it could represent a brief but early partnership of Thomas Mayer with one of his brothers while he was still working at Longport, England; or it could refer to another Staffordshire pottery altogether.
