The Lamberton Works dates its foundation from 1869 when three Quakers, George Comfort, Thomas Bell and Jonathan Stewart, started a pottery of two kilns in the part of Trenton called Port of Lamberton. In 1892, there was a fire in one of the Maddock potteries. At that time the newly formed Maddock Pottery Company purchased the old Lamberton Works (one of three Maddock pottery companies operating in Trenton at the time). Fine grades of semi-porcelain were made at the Lamberton works under the Maddocks. "Lamberton China" was the name given to the hotel china made by the Maddock Pottery Company.
