The British landscape artist William Henry Bartlett made four visits to the United States between 1836 and 1852. Engravings based on drawings made during the earlier visits were published in American Scenery, by Nathaniel Parker Willis (1840). These views were frequently copied by other artists and printmakers, including Hartford's Kellogg brothers.
