BiographyMary Ledyard, baptized on 15 June 1735 in Groton, Connecticut, was the daughter of Captain John (1700-1771) and Deborah Youngs Ledyard (1705-1746/7). She was the sister of Colonel William Ledyard, who was killed at the Battle of Fort Griswold on 6 September 1781. Mary Ledyard married Colonel Thomas Seymour (1735-1829) of Hartford, Connecticut; he became the first mayor of Hartford. Mary and Thomas had seven children: Captain Thomas Youngs (1757-1811); William (1758-1843); Edward (1762-1822); Major Henry (b. 1764); Mary Juliana (1769-1843); Ledyard (b. 1773) and Samuel (1776-1776). Mary Ledyard Seymour died on 27 August 1807 and was buried in the Old South Yard in Hartford, Connecticut.
