The Hitchcock Chair Co., Ltd.American, 1947 - 2006

The Hitchcock Chair Company was founded in 1947 by two Hartford businessmen: John Tarrant Kenney (L. Hitchcock's chronicler) and Richard Coombs. Initially, the company manufactured chairs and furniture in Lambert Hitchcock's old chair factory in Riverton (Hitchcocksville), Connecticut. In the 1970s the Hitchcock Chair Company built a manufacturing facility in New Hartford, in a small industrial park off Route 219 and within a mile of the Farmington River (east of the river). Gradually, retail operations expanded in the Riverton facility, and by the 1990s the retail operations were concentrated in Riverton and all the manufacturing took place in the New Hartford facility. The company's retail and manufacturing operations closed in 2006.
