Nathan Margolis

BiographyNathan Margolis was a master furniture craftsman, born in Russia in 1873. He was the son of Charles and Eva Margolis. Nathan Margolis immigrated to Hartford, Connecticut in 1892, dealing antique furniture with his father for five years, and later specializing in making reproductions of antique furniture. He became nationally known for his Chippendale, Hepplewhite, and Sheraton furniture. Margolis replicas of originals are in homes throughout the United States, and the chairs of the Supreme Court Judges of Connecticut are the work of Nathan Margolis.

Nathan Margolis married Rachel Bliss (d. 1951). They had five children: Harold D.; Irving; Beatrice; Ruth; and Florence. Nathan Margolis' son Harold continued the Margolis shop after his father's death on 8 February 1925.
