BiographyCharles Foote was born in Colchester, Connecticut, on 3 February 1781, the son of Sarah and Charles Foote. In 1801, the family moved to Mendon, Monroe County, New York. Charles Foote married twice: first to Betsey Wilson (d. 1826) on 17 November 1806; and later to Sophia P. Foote, the widow of his brother John, on 21 May 1826. He had ten children.
Charles Foote belonged to the New York State Volunteer Militia. He was Justice of the Peace in Mendon for twenty years. Later in life, he spent his time living with first one daughter, Mrs. Thorpe, in Batavia, and then with another daughter, Mrs. Charles H. Foote, in Iona, Michigan. Charles Foote died in Iona on 1 September 1883 at the age of 102.
