Benjamin CheneyAmerican, 1725 - 1815
Benjamin Cheney was born in East Hartford, Connecticut, in 1725. He was the son of Benjamin Cheney and the brother of Timothy Cheney (b. 1731). Benjamin Cheney probably learned clockmaking as an apprentice to Seth Youngs of Hartford. Though he made both brass and wooden works, the latter were more common in his clocks. During the Revolution, when the market for clocks disappeared, Benjamin Cheney manufactured nails and tacks. Benjamin Cheney died in 1815.
