BiographyJacob Sargeant was born 28 February 1761 in Mansfield, Connecticut. He was the son of Hannah Baldwin Sargeant and Samuel Sargeant. He employed his younger brother, Thomas, as an apprentice. In 1795, Sargeant moved to Hartford, Connecticut, where he expanded his silversmithing and jewelry-making activities.
