Nicholas Disbrowe
Anglo-American, 1613 - 1683
Disbrowe was given credit for the construction of many Connecticut chests with carved floral motifs because of an inscription, "Mary Allens Chist Cutte and joyned by Nick: Disbrowe", that appears on a chest owned by the Bayou Bend collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (accession number B.69.356). The inscription is now believed to be a modern forgery; the attributions to Disbrowe are generally discredited.
