George Malpas Cole

American, 1853 - 1933
BiographyGeorge Malpus Cole of Hartford, Connecticut, was captain of the 3rd Infantry of the Connecticut National Guard, a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army during the Spanish American War (1846-1848), and a brigadier general in the Mexican Border Uprising of 1912. He served as Adjutant General of the Connecticut National Guard from about 1909 to 1928. When George M. Cole retired from the military, he held the rank of major general.

Cole was born on 20 August 1853 in Portsmouth, England. He was the son of George and Jane A. (Malpas) Cole. His family moved to Massachusetts. He married Emily Judson Beckwith (1855-1928) of New London, Connecticut in 1877. They had four children: Lieutenant Colonel George Ezra Cole (1885-1957), Major Donald Malpas Cole (1893-1967), Clara M. B. Cole (1878-1954), and Emily Beckwith (Cole) Nye (1896-1962).

He died on 23 November 1933 in West Hartford, Connecticut.
