Frank Dexter Cheney Sr.

BiographyFrank Dexter Cheney graduated from Yale in 1900. He married Sara Otis Amory in 1904 and had five children: Frank Dexter Cheney Jr. (1905-1991); Rosalie Amory Cheney Fiske (1906-1999); Amory Cheney Marshall (1909-1999); Hope Amory Cheney Talcott (1913-1940); and Edward Amory Cheney (1918-1971).

He worked for Cheney Bros. for 55 years and was the Chairman of the Board when he retired in 1955. He was a Director of Cheney Bros. and the Pioneer Parachute Co. and he was a trustee of Deerfield Academy and the Hotchkiss School. During World War I, Mr. Cheney was a Director of the Textile Alliance, a government agency that imported scarce fabrics for war industries. Subsequently, as Director of the Textile Foundation, he was charged with disbursing the earnings of the Textile Alliance for the benefit of the textile industry.
