Horace Bushnell

American, 1802 - 1876
BiographyHorace Bushnell was born in Litchfield, Connecticut on 14 April 1802, the son of Ensign Bushnell and Dotha Bishop Bushnell. He graduated Yale in 1827. Horace Bushnell married Mary Apthorp on 13 September 1833 in Hartford, Connecticut. They had five children. From 1827 to 1828, he presided as the principal of Chelsea Grammar School. He then worked in the Editorial Office of the New York Journal of Commerce in 1828. From 1829 to 1831, Bushnell served as a tutor at Yale College. He attended Yale Divinity School where he was ordained on 22 May 1833 at North Church in Hartford, Connecticut. Horace Bushnell died in Hartford, Connecticut on 17 February 1876, aged 74.
