John Henry von der Wall

American, 1893 - 1976
BiographyJohn Henry von der Wall was born on 17 October 1893. He was a long time resident of Bolton, Connecticut. He was a member of Admiral Byrd's 1932 expedition to Antarctica, and he was also a member of the 1933-5 expedition. John Henry von der Wall was a master diver with the U.S. Navy; as part of the expedition, he was the first to dive under the polar ice cap. He worked as an assembler in East Hartford, and lived for a time in Manchester. He was married to Lillian Maude von der Wall (1888-1957). He died in 1977.
